running for their lives

Imagine waking up to the sound of bombs destroying your neighbourhood. Your home is gone. Your family members are lost, and every second you stay puts your life in danger. This is the reality for thousands of refugees fleeing war-torn countries right now. They aren’t leaving their old lives behind for the fun of it… they are doing it because they want to survive!

Yet, there are certain people in Britain who resent them coming here. It’s easy to judge from the comfort of a safe living room, but let’s stop and think for a moment. If you were in their position, wouldn’t you do exactly the same? Wouldn’t you risk everything to keep your children safe? Of course you would. Anyone would.

Refugees aren’t looking for a easy ride. They’re human beings who’ve endured unimaginable heartbreak. When they arrive on our shores, they’ve already lost everything. They don’t need anger or prejudice. They need safety, kindness, and a chance to rebuild what was broken.

Human rights experts often remind us that “… seeking asylum is a legal right, not a crime. “We need to remember that compassion shouldn’t have borders.

A Matter of Empathy

At the end of the day, it’s about basic empathy. No one chooses to become a refugee. Nobody wants to leave their homeland behind to face dangerous journeys across the world.

Instead of focusing on resentment, it’s time to focus on our shared humanity. If we put ourselves in their shoes, even for just a second, the conversation would change completely. We’d see that helping those in desperate need doesn’t weaken us… it shows the very best of who we are.
