While it offers an explanation for adaptation within kinds, its grander claims about the emergence of all life from a common ancestor rely heavily on inference, not observable proof.
The Problem of Missing Evidence
A major issue is the fossil record. If life gradually evolved from one form to another through countless transitions, we should find an abundance of fossilised intermediate creatures. Instead, the record shows fully formed species appearing abruptly. New life forms emerge without clear ancestral links, a phenomenon described by some as the very opposite of a gradual evolutionary process. The countless missing links remain missing, suggesting the story is incomplete.
The Complexity of Life
Evolution struggles to account for the staggering complexity of life. The intricate machinery within a single cell, with its sophisticated information code in DNA, points overwhelmingly to design. Such specified complexity does not arise from random mutations and natural selection, which primarily work to remove information or select from existing traits, not create entirely new, functional genetic blueprints. The odds of this happening by chance are astronomically low, far beyond one in a million.

This declaration from the very first book of the Bible establishes a divine act of creation. It is further supported by the words that describe the method behind it.
“For by him were all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible – all things were created by him and for him.” —Colossians 1:16

Mysteries of Dark Matter and Energy
For the Big Bang model to work mathematically, scientists have had to invent two mysterious concepts – dark matter and dark energy. These invisible forces are said to make up over 95% of the entire universe, yet they have never been directly observed or measured. A theory that requires the existence of undetectable components to hold itself together is inherently unproven.
