a trail of failure

People have tried every system under the sun… yet not one of them has delivered. It makes you wonder, is fair governance even possible? From kings and empires to democracies and dictatorships, humanity has spent 6,000 years testing every form of rule. Every system arrives with grand promises, yet every single one collapses in the end.

Our current systems aren’t any different. They haven’t delivered lasting success. We’re stuck with the same models and the same track records of failure. Morals are fracturing, and traditional values are giving way to a me-first mindset. Poverty, corruption, crime, and aggressive nations spending fortunes on weaponry… all of these stem directly from modern rule. Our rapid leap in scientific knowledge mostly gets channelled into harmful industries and dangerous weapons.

After thousands of years of experiments, one truth remains… “There is nothing new under the sun.” The root causes behind these failures aren’t new either. As an ancient prophet put it… “It does not belong to a man who is walking, even to direct his step.” Beyond human limitations, “the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one”, with spiritual forces manoeuvring political leaders across the earth.

Patterns of Breakdown

When you examine history, a clear cycle emerges. Civilisations reach their peak through shared purpose, great promises and sacrifice. Once established, however, the collective drive softens, slipping into self-indulgence. Collapse quickly follows. Historians have long tracked this internal decay. As one scholar noted… “No great nation is ever conquered until it has destroyed itself. ” Reference works also highlight a major warning sign for our time… “Family is the oldest human institution. In many ways it’s the most important… Entire civilisations have survived or disappeared, depending on whether family life was strong or weak.“

Can We Break the Cycle?

Reflecting on whether history must repeat itself, a prominent historian wrote…

“A survey of the historical landscape… shows that, up to date, history has repeated itself about twenty times… all these representatives of the species of society called civilisations are already dead or moribund… Is that pattern of decline and fall in store for us in our turn, as a doom from which no civilisation can hope to escape?“

He offered his own take… “In the writer’s opinion, the answer to this question is emphatically in the negative… We aren’t doomed to make history repeat itself; it’s open to us, through our own efforts, to give history, in our case, some new and unprecedented turn…“

He firmly believed modern society could break free, placing his faith in global cooperation, economic compromises, and spiritual values. Today, however, those pillars look weaker than ever, international bodies struggle, and divides remain deep. History seems to be repeating itself continuously.

There is, however, another perspective on human governance… one that identified these exact patterns long ago, while pointing toward a truly just rule for the world.
