A Tool of Deception
Satan and his demons do not want people to serve God. Their goal is to turn as many away from Jehovah as possible. One of the main ways they do this is through false religion.
“Such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11:13–15)
A religion is false if it does not teach the truth from the Bible. It may look genuine—like counterfeit money—but it is worthless and dangerous.
Consider this issue:
An independent report found that around 216,000 children, mostly boys, suffered sexual abuse by clergy within the Catholic hierarchy in France since 1950. The findings paint a stark picture of harm that spanned decades, hidden behind silence and authority.
The chair of the commission estimated that at least 2,900 to 3,200 perpetrators were involved and said the Church showed a cruel indifference to those harmed. The language was plain, the charge was grave, and the call for accountability was clear.
A statement said the Pope felt deep pain on receiving the results. It described a betrayal of trust, a betrayal of moral duty, and a betrayal of children, whose voices were kept quiet for too long.
When abuse carried out by lay figures connected to Church life was included, such as teachers in Catholic schools, the total number of victims in France alone could reach 330,000, the inquiry said.
Religious Lies Cannot Please Jehovah
Religious falsehoods offend Jehovah, the God of truth. When Jesus was on earth, some religious leaders wanted to kill him. They claimed, “We have one Father, God.” But Jesus exposed their true motives.
“You are from your father the Devil.” (John 8:41, 44)
“Today, many people believe they are worshipping God, but they are actually serving Satan and his demons.“
“The things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God.” (1 Corinthians 10:20)
Rotten Roots, Rotten Fruit
Just as a diseased tree produces bad fruit, false religion leads people to do harmful things. The world is full of suffering—immorality, violence, theft, oppression, murder, and abuse. Many who commit these acts belong to a religion, but their beliefs do not move them to do what is right. Unless they change, they cannot be friends of God.
“Every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit.” (Matthew 7:17, 18)
Idolatry: A Barrier to Friendship with God
False religion teaches people to pray to idols. But Jehovah says not to do this. It makes sense—would you feel close to someone who only spoke to your photo, but never to you directly? Of course not. Jehovah wants people to speak to him, not to lifeless images.
“You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything… You must not bow down to them nor be led to serve them.” (Exodus 20:4, 5)
War and Violence: Not the Way of Christ
False religion teaches that killing in war is acceptable. But Jesus taught that God’s people would show love—not violence—toward one another.
“By this all will know that you are my disciples—if you have love among yourselves.” (John 13:35)
Even when Jesus was being arrested, he did not allow his disciples to fight.
“Return your sword to its place, for all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.” (Matthew 26:51, 52)
Hellfire: A Lie About God’s Character
False religion teaches that wicked people will suffer forever in hellfire. But the Bible says that sin leads to death—not eternal torment. Jehovah is a loving God. Would a loving Father torture people forever? Absolutely not.
“For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life.” (Romans 6:23)
In Paradise, there will be only one true religion—the one Jehovah approves.
“Who will not really fear you, Jehovah, and glorify your name? Because you alone are loyal.” (Revelation 15:4)
All religions built on Satan’s lies will be gone.
