Will they listen now?
Let me take you back to a time when a man named Noah was on the Earth – you’ve heard of Noah, right? If not, let me refresh your memory….
Noah was a real person, and the Flood was a real event—not a myth or a legend. People referred to Noah as an example of faith and righteousness.
It wouldn’t make sense for Bible writers to use a fictional person as a role model. Noah, along with other faithful people, is an example we can follow.
Was the Flood a Real Event?
Yes, the Flood truly happened. God brought it about to clear the earth of wickedness, but he also gave instructions to Noah to build an ark so that good people and animals could be kept safe.
“The earth had become ruined in the sight of the true God, and the earth was filled with violence.”
—Genesis 6:11–20
We can trust that the Flood took place because it’s recorded in the Scriptures, which are inspired by God.
“All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness.”
—2 Timothy 3:16
Why Did the Flood Happen?
Before the Flood, human behaviour had become deeply corrupt. The Bible says that people were violent and immoral.
“Jehovah saw that man’s wickedness was great on the earth and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only bad all the time.”
—Genesis 6:5
“The earth had become ruined in the sight of the true God, and the earth was filled with violence.”
—Genesis 6:11
“The angels who did not keep their original position but forsook their own proper dwelling place, he has reserved with eternal bonds in dense darkness for the judgement of the great day. So too, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them…are placed before us as a warning example by undergoing the punishment of everlasting fire.”
—Jude 6–7
Did People Know the Flood Was Coming?
Yes, they did. God told Noah what was going to happen and gave him instructions to build an ark. Noah also warned others, but they didn’t listen.
“I am going to bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy from under the heavens all flesh that has the breath of life. Everything on the earth will perish. And you must make for yourself an ark.”
—Genesis 6:13–14
“Jehovah said to Noah, ‘Go into the ark, you and all your household, because you are the one I have found to be righteous before me among this generation.’”
—Genesis 7:1
“He did not hold back from punishing an ancient world but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with his family when he brought a flood upon a world of ungodly people.”
—2 Peter 2:5
“They took no notice until the Flood came and swept them all away.”
—Matthew 24:39
What Does This Mean for Us Today?
God hasn’t changed since Noah’s time.
“I am Jehovah; I do not change.”
—Malachi 3:6
Jesus said that our time is similar to Noah’s days.
“Just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be.”
—Matthew 24:37
We live in troubled times, and the Bible shows that this world system will come to an end. Today, God’s people are sharing a message of warning—just like Noah did. Will you listen? If you’ve already accepted the truth, will you help share it with others?
What Can We Learn from Noah?
Noah and his family set a powerful example. He was organised, hard-working, patient, and protective of those in his care. Most importantly, he always prioritised Jehovah’s will.
By copying Noah’s faith, we can bring blessings to those we love. Even when others ignore God or stop serving him, we should stay faithful—just like Noah did. Jehovah treasures that kind of endurance.
“The one who has endured to the end will be saved.”
—Matthew 24:13

Just Like Noah’s Day
People today are much like those in Noah’s time—busy with life, doing as they please, and ignoring the warnings. Jehovah’s Witnesses speak about the coming “day of Jehovah”, but many turn away, thinking it won’t happen. Back then, only a few listened, and it’s the same now.
Soon, Jehovah’s day will come, whether people are ready or not—will you be ready?

“All scriptures are either full, brief excerpts or summaries.”
