What the Bible Says About the Future

The Bible records all that has happened since time began, and it also tells us what is to come. As we know, we humans can’t see the future on our own, so these promises point to a source far beyond human comprehension … that’s no surprise, as the Bible’s message comes from God, our creator himself!

It speaks of a great war led by God. During that conflict, God will remove evil and those who practise it, while protecting those who serve him. In addition, God’s appointed King, Jesus Christ, will make sure God’s servants enjoy lasting peace and joy. Sickness and death will be gone!

A Clear Hope and a Clear Response

God promises a restored paradise on earth, and that hope brings real comfort, but those who want to live in that future must respond in the right way. The final story in the book explains what is required to receive what God has prepared for those who serve him.

The war God brings to an end

The Bible describes heavenly riders coming down on horses, showing that God has a war to fight against the badness on earth. The place linked with this final conflict is called Armageddon. Its purpose is clear: it will remove all wickedness from the earth.

“And they gathered them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Armageddon.”

– Revelation 16:16

Jesus takes the lead in this war at Armageddon. Jehovah chose Jesus as King of His government, so he is shown with a king’s headpiece. The sword shows his authority to bring down God’s enemies.

Past judgements show what God will do

Jehovah has acted against wickedness before, and those events help explain what lies ahead.

Remember the Great Flood of Noah’s day, which wiped out all those who chose to ignore God’s warning to Noah? Jehovah brought that judgement. In the same way, He destroyed Sodʹom and Go·morʹrah with the fire He sent:

The Great Flood and the ruins of Sodom & Gomorrah today.

And by reducing the cities of Sodʹom and Go·morʹrah to ashes, he condemned them, setting a pattern for ungodly people of things to come.

– 2 Peter 2:6

He also protected His people when He caused the sea to crash down on the Egyptians and their war chariots, and yet He also allowed the Israelites to suffer consequences when they became corrupt.

The Red Sea dramatically crashing down on the pursuing Egyptians.

It’s for that reason it should not surprise us that Jehovah will send His heavenly armies to end all badness on earth. That action will change life for everyone who wants to do what is right!

A New Paradise on Earth

Picture a place filled with tall trees, bright flowers, and imposing mountains. Animals live in peace, and even a deer eats calmly from a child’s hand. Nearby, lions and horses rest together in an open meadow. It’s the kind of home many people long for!

God’s original purpose was for people to live forever on earth in a paradise… and it still is. He also promises an end to the suffering that dominates life today, including sickness, grief, and pain.

“With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: ‘Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them.'”

– Revelation 21:3:

“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Revelation 21:4
Learning the way to everlasting life

We must know Jehovah and his Son, Jesus. The Bible explains it clearly.

“This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.”

– John 17:3
Build strong knowledge from God’s Word

The Bible is the main source of knowledge. God’s Word gives the full guidance we need to serve Jehovah in the right way and gain everlasting life. So make a habit of studying the Bible regularly.

Knowledge must shape daily life

Knowing facts about Jehovah and Jesus is not enough by itself. A person can learn many teachings and still miss out on everlasting life. What matters is living in harmony with what we learn. Judas Iscariot is a warning – he was one of the twelve apostles Jesus chose. Judas learnt a great deal about Jehovah and Jesus, yet he let selfishness grow. In time, he betrayed Jesus to his enemies for 30 pieces of silver. He lost the hope of everlasting life because he refused to act loyally!

Gehazi shows the same danger… he wanted clothes and money that were not his. So he lied to get them. Jehovah punished him, and Jehovah will also correct those who ignore His laws!

Follow faithful examples, especially Jesus

Many people, however, are serving Jehovah faithfully (9 million and counting). Their example is worth copying. Young Samuel stands out … he began serving Jehovah at the tabernacle when he was only 4 or 5 years old, proving no one is too young to serve Jehovah.

Above all, follow Jesus Christ. Even as a boy, he was in the temple speaking with others about his heavenly Father. Copy his pattern. Speak to as many people as you can about Jehovah and about His Son, Jesus Christ.

When you keep learning, keep obeying, and keep sharing the truth, you can look forward to living forever in God’s new paradise on earth!
