what the bible tells us
Many see the Bible as an old book that no longer relates to modern life. Yet, a closer look at its pages—especially Revelation—shows it speaks directly to current events. Conflict, misleading claims, and unrest across nations are all clearly described in its message. The events unfolding in the world today reflect the scenarios outlined in these ancient writings. Choosing to ignore these connections does not change what is taking place. The events are moving forward, whether people acknowledge them or not.
The Universe Had a Clear Beginning
Genesis 1:1 states, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” For generations, many in science circles argued that the universe was always there, with no origin. In the late 20th century, scientific discoveries shifted this view. Evidence began to show that the universe did have a starting point. This lines up with the opening words of the Bible, which always claimed a defined beginning. What was once dismissed by science is now accepted, showing a surprising agreement between the Bible’s claims and current scientific understanding.
Agreement Between Science and the Early Earth
In Genesis 1:2, 9, the early earth appears “formless and empty”, covered in water. Recent research backs this up. Dr Stephen Grant observed that early Earth had harsh conditions, with an atmosphere people could not breathe and no oxygen present. He described it as something quite bleak—almost like a scene from a science fiction story.
There is more. Astronomy publications report that Earth was likely covered by water with little or no land visible in its early days. Scientific findings about the planet’s first conditions align with the biblical description. The parallels are notable and add weight to the argument that the scriptural and scientific accounts are not as far apart as some believe.
Life’s Development Follows a Logical Order
The Bible’s creation account outlines a clear order for the appearance of life:
- First, light reaches the planet’s surface (Genesis 1:3-5).
- Next, the atmosphere forms, separating it from the water below (Genesis 1:6-8).
- Then, dry land appears (Genesis 1:9-13).
- The sun and moon become visible (Genesis 1:14-19).
- Sea creatures and birds emerge (Genesis 1:20-23).
- Land animals and humans follow (Genesis 1:24-31).
Scientific research finds the same pattern. Fish and sea life existed before mammals, with people appearing much later. Physicist Daniel Harris noted, “The match between Genesis and what science tells us is striking, especially when you consider how simple the biblical account is.”
It is also important to clear up common misunderstandings. The Bible does not claim the earth is 6,000 years old. It simply states that creation happened “in the beginning”, leaving the timeline open. It does not require six 24-hour days; the Hebrew word for “day” can mean a stretch of time. Nor does it reject the idea of animals adapting, as it describes creatures being made “according to their kinds”, which allows for variation within groups.
The Bible’s descriptions of the earth’s origin and the order of life’s development remain persuasive. Even mainstream encyclopaedias accept that a supernatural start to life cannot be ruled out by science. The evidence supports the idea that we are still living in times shaped by the Bible—and its message remains as relevant as ever.
