is this life all there is

Is this life all there is?

Have you ever questioned whether life is just about playing, going to school, working, marrying, raising a family, and growing old, then dying? (Job 14:1, 2) The Bible reveals that even the wisest people have pondered this. (Ecclesiastes 2:11)

Does Life Have Meaning?

To understand life’s purpose, we must first ask, ‘How did life begin? When we examine the incredible design of our bodies and minds, many conclude a wise Creator is responsible. (Psalm 139:14) If so, He must have made us for a reason. Discovering that reason gives life deep meaning.

Why Were Humans Created?

God blessed the first humans with a thrilling mission—to fill the earth, turn it into paradise, and live forever. (Genesis 1:28, 31) Though human rebellion delayed this plan, God never abandoned His purpose. The Bible assures us He is working to save faithful people and will fulfil His original plan for the earth.

God Wants You to Experience True Life

God desires that you see life as He intended—full of meaning and hope. (Psalm 37:29) Through the Bible, you can learn how to align your life with His purpose and find lasting fulfilment.

Humans Are Unique in Their Search for Meaning

Humans stand apart—we write, paint, create, and ponder life’s deepest questions:

  • Why does the universe exist?
  • How did we come to be?
  • What is life’s purpose?
  • What does the future hold?

Some dismiss these questions, believing answers are beyond reach. Others claim life is a random product of evolution, devoid of meaning.

Is Life Just a Cosmic Accident?

Certain thinkers argue that life has no ultimate purpose. “There are no gods, no grand design,” asserted historian and biologist William Provine. He insisted ethics and meaning are human inventions. Yet many find this view unsatisfying. They see a universe governed by precise laws and marvel at nature’s intricate designs—evidence they believe points to intelligence, not chance. Some scientists, once firm evolutionists, have reconsidered their stance.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Mark Reynolds grew up learning atheism and evolution. “Believers were seen as misguided,” he said. But studying the human brain—the most complex known structure—made him question. “Was it designed just to perish? “That seemed illogical. His search for meaning led him to the Bible, and later, his wife—also a sceptic—joined him. Today, both firmly believe in God’s purpose for humanity.

Physicist Dr. Elena Chen researched plasma, the sun’s primary state. “Nature follows exact laws,” she noted. “Who designed these laws?” The Bible’s opening words—“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1)—became her answer.

The Bible Answers Life’s Biggest Questions

Science explains how things work—like brain function or solar energy. But the Bible addresses why . . . why the universe exists, why laws govern it, and why we are here.

“God did not create it simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited.”

(Isaiah 45:18).

Earth has a purpose, and as we’ll see, that purpose shapes our future hope.
