the alternative

“It is neither the purpose nor intent of this material to ridicule the views of either fundamentalists or those who choose not to believe in God. Rather, it is our hope that it will prompt you to examine again the basis for some of your beliefs.”
Let’s face it—crime, violence, and killings now fill the news every day. People live in fear as attacks and stabbings become common. With rape and murder rates rising, it’s clear something’s broken. Many feel there’s less safety, as kindness and trust are replaced by suspicion. Families struggle to protect their children, while cities lose their sense of community. Governments try new laws, but little changes. The cycle repeats, hurting innocent people and making hope feel distant.
Bible Principles as an Alternative
If everyone followed Bible principles, we wouldn’t see such decline. Teachings like “You must love your neighbour as yourself” (Matthew 22-39) build respect and care. Jesus said, “Do to others as you would have them do to you” (Luke 6-31). Applying these words could stop much harm. If people let these rules guide their choices, crime would drop. Families could feel safe again. A strong moral code would replace fear and mistrust, making peace a reality for all.
God, our creator, gave us planet Earth as the ideal home. He made it with care and balance, providing what we need to live well. The earth’s beauty, from green fields to clean waters, shows thoughtful design and purpose.
God wanted people to enjoy life in a paradise garden forever. His plan was lasting peace and happiness for everyone. Each part of the earth, from the smallest of atoms to the magnitude of the majestic universe, fits this purpose. Everything works perfectly together to support life and well-being.
A Daily Miracle We Overlook
Though our very existence depends on it, most people barely give the sun a second thought. In doing so, they miss its powerful testimony about our Creator. “You have made the light and the sun.” (Psalm 74:16) This magnificent star glorifies Jehovah as “the Maker of heaven and earth”. (Psalm 146:6)
The sun stands as just one of countless celestial witnesses to God’s creative power. Its perfect positioning, its life-sustaining warmth, and its reliable daily appearance all point to a Master Designer who carefully arranged the universe to support life.
Imagine standing by a crackling fire on a winter’s night. You instinctively find that perfect spot – close enough to feel the warmth but not so near as to be burnt. This simple experience reflects an astonishing cosmic reality. Our sun – that blazing sphere in the sky!
This celestial furnace sits at the ideal distance from Earth – 93 million miles away – and radiates such incredible power that we feel its warmth across this vast expanse of space. Yet Earth orbits in the precise position needed for life – any closer and our oceans would boil away; any farther and our planet would become a frozen wasteland. “The light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 11:7)
More Than Just a Star
Our sun is actually a medium-sized star that astronomers classify as a “yellow dwarf”. Yet its specifications inspire awe-
- Core temperature reaching 27,000,000°F (15,000,000°C)
- Energy output equivalent to millions of nuclear explosions every second
- Size capable of containing 1,300,000 Earths
“The glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.” (1 Corinthians 15:40) Some stars are so massive they could swallow our entire solar system!
A Universe Beyond Counting
The Bible long ago described the stars as innumerable as “the sand which is on the seashore”. (Jeremiah 33:22) Modern science confirms this astonishing truth-
- Our Milky Way galaxy contains over 100 billion stars
- The observable universe holds hundreds of billions of galaxies
- Some galaxies contain trillions of stars
Yet the Creator knows each one intimately – “He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.” (Psalm 147:4)
The Grand Design
When we consider the sun’s perfect placement, the stars’ countless numbers, and the galaxies’ precise movements, we see undeniable evidence of a supreme designer. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1). Every sunrise, every twinkling star, and every orbiting planet testifies to Jehovah’s wisdom and power as the Maker of heaven and earth.
Our Sun – A Stellar Marvel
The blazing sun that lights our days is actually a star – the only one close enough to appear as more than a twinkling point of light. Its power defies imagination-
- A core temperature of 27,000,000°F (15,000,000°C)
- A pinhead-sized piece of its core would be deadly from 90 miles (140 km) away
- Every second, it releases energy equal to hundreds of millions of nuclear explosions
Yet in cosmic terms, our sun is modestly sized. “One star differs from another star in glory” (1 Corinthians 15:41). Some stars are so enormous they could swallow our solar system whole!
Stars Beyond Counting
The night sky’s visible stars – about 3,000 to the naked eye – represent just a handful compared to the universe’s unimaginable vastness. “As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured” (Jeremiah 33:22). Modern astronomy reveals- –
- 100 billion stars in our Milky Way galaxy
- Hundreds of billions of galaxies in the observable universe
- Some galaxies contain trillions of stars
Yet the Creator knows each intimately – “He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.” (Psalm 147:4)
Galactic Grandeur
Our Milky Way spans 100,000 light-years, meaning light needs 100,000 years to cross it at 186,000 miles per second (300,000 km/sec). Some galaxies dwarf ours in size. “He stretches out the heavens like a curtain.” (Psalm 104:2)
Celestial Precision
From spinning planets to orbiting galaxies, all move with perfect precision according to divine laws. Scientists marvel at this cosmic “ballet”.
