Strengthening Faith in the Unseen God

Many people claim they only trust what they can see. The Bible clearly states that “no man has seen God at any time” (John 1:18). For your own faith, it is just as important to keep your trust strong in “the invisible God,” Jehovah (Col. 1:15).

A common misconception that keeps many from understanding the truth about God is the theory of evolution. This idea, based on human thinking, stands in contrast to the Bible and can take away hope. At its core, evolution claims that we evolved from apes. The Big Bang theory claims that all living things appeared by chance as a result of a random Big Bang. If you accept either of these views, then human life would seem to have no real purpose!

At the same time, some groups within Christendom hold that the universe, including the earth and all living things, is only a few thousand years old. These people, often called creationists, value the Bible greatly. They teach that God made everything in six days, each lasting 24 hours, just a few thousand years ago.

They deny clear scientific findings that do not support their belief. Because of this, creationism can make the Bible seem unreasonable or unreliable. People who promote these teachings may remind you of those in the first century who had strong zeal for God but lacked true knowledge—see Romans 10-2. To challenge the deeply held beliefs of evolution and creationism, you need to use God’s Word wisely. This takes personal effort and a real desire to learn what the Bible actually says.

Faith Rests on Proof and Clear Thinking

The Bible encourages you to value knowledge—see Proverbs 10-14. Jehovah wants your faith to rest on facts and logical thinking, not on human ideas or old traditions—see Hebrews 11-1. To have real confidence in God, you must first be sure that Jehovah exists—see Hebrews 11-6. You reach this certainty not by wishing but by looking at the facts and using your power of reason—see Romans 12-1.

The apostle Paul gives a strong reason to believe in God, even though you cannot see Him. Paul writes that God’s unseen qualities can be clearly understood from what has been made, showing His eternal power and divine nature—see Romans 1-20. If someone doubts God’s existence, you could point to clear signs in creation that show the Creator’s wisdom and power.
