A recent decision by the ruling synod of the Church of England, reported by a London newspaper, rejected a move to return to what was called a “biblical standard” of morality, and allowed homosexual clergy to remain in their posts.

The vote followed a proposal from a rector in Essex who had called for the removal of homosexual clergy from the church.

He claimed that homosexuality had become “so rampant” in one Anglican training college that students from another theological college were no longer allowed to visit.

He also referred to cases where clergy had simply been moved to new parishes after accusations of child abuse.

In the end, the synod chose not to demand the expulsion of gay vicars. Instead, it urged clergymen to uphold sexual morality while continuing to serve in their roles.
