Zero hour draws near
The Doomsday Clock and God’s Countdown
In 1947, scientists introduced the Doomsday Clock to show how close they believe the world is to nuclear war. The clock’s hands have moved over the years as global risks shift. In 1984, they reached three minutes to midnight, warning of impending conflict.
Yet, the Bible reveals a different countdown—one set by Jehovah roughly 6,000 years ago. This divine countdown leads to a time when God’s rule will be fully vindicated. After Adam and Eve’s rebellion, God promised a “seed” who would crush Satan and restore true peace (Genesis 3:15; Revelation 12:9).
The Messiah Arrives
At the appointed time, the Messiah—God’s Son—came to Earth. Jesus remained loyal to God, even unto death. His perfect life made redemption possible, paving the way for humanity’s rescue from sin and the eventual eradication of all evil (1 John 3:8; Galatians 4:4, 5).
The Gathering of the Kingdom’s Heirs
During his earthly ministry, Jesus began gathering those chosen to rule with him in heaven—a select group of 144,000. In 1914, the Bible indicates that Jesus began his heavenly reign, and Satan was cast down. This pivotal event marked the start of the “last days” of the current world order (Daniel 7:13, 14; Revelation 12:7-12).
Witnesses to the End of the Countdown
God’s countdown is nearly complete. Remarkably, some who witnessed the events of 1914 are still alive today (Mark 13:30). Since 1935, millions have joined the “great crowd,” a group promised protection through the coming global crisis and eternal life in God’s new world (Revelation 7:9, 10, 14).
What Lies Ahead
The apostle Paul warned- “Whenever it is that they are saying, ‘Peace and security!’ then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them” (1 Thessalonians 5:3). For decades, world leaders have promised peace but failed to deliver. Today, fear of conflict and uncertainty about the future grips the world.
Soon, global powers will make a bold declaration of “peace and security.” This superficial claim will ignore God’s sovereignty—and when it comes, sudden destruction will follow.
The Fall of False Religion
The world’s religious empire, called “Babylon the Great,” will be annihilated by its former political allies. Already, declining worship, waning influence, and anti-religious sentiments are spreading. At the appointed time, rulers will turn on false religion and obliterate it (Revelation 17:15, 16; 19:1, 2).
The Last Attack and Satan’s End
Next, nations will attack Jehovah’s loyal people. Though peaceful and law-abiding, they will face persecution for refusing to support the political system. God will shield them. Scripture foretells the destruction of Satan’s earthly system, followed by his imprisonment for 1,000 years. After a final test, he and his followers will be eradicated forever (Revelation 19:19-21; 20:1-3, 7-10).
A New World Ahead
With evil gone, God’s faithful people will rejoice in their deliverance. The “great crowd” will join the heavenly host in praising God and Christ (Revelation 7:10-12).
Healing and Lasting Life
A united human society will honor God. The Bible depicts a “river of water of life” and “trees of life”—symbols of the blessings God will provide: health, peace, and eternal life through Jesus (Revelation 21:1, 2; 22:1, 2).
A Changed World
Life on Earth will be transformed. Freed from sin, people will experience love, joy, and true peace. Every need will be met, and work will take on new purpose as humanity fulfills God’s original design for creation (Galatians 5:19-23).
An Open Invitation
God and Christ extend a heartfelt call- “Come!… let anyone that wishes take life’s water free” (Revelation 22:17). Now is the time to respond—and to share this hope with others. Survival into God’s new world is possible for those who act without delay.
