What’s in a name?
God’s Personal Name
People have names, so it makes sense that God does too. The Bible uses many titles for him, such as God, Lord, and Creator. Still, it also gives his personal name, Jehovah.
“I am Jehovah. That is my name.”
Isaiah 42:8
“May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth.“
Psalm 83:18
Why It Matters
God wants people to know and use his name. That helps us see him as a real person, not just a distant power. Still, knowing his name is only the start. We also need to know what he’s like.
Who God Is
The Bible teaches that there is one true God. He made all things and gives life, so he alone deserves worship. It also says that Jehovah is a spirit, so humans can’t see him with their eyes.
“God is a Spirit.”
John 4:24
What God Is Like
Jehovah is fair, kind, patient, and loving. He’s never unjust, and he cares about how people are treated. The Bible often highlights four main qualities, power, wisdom, justice, and love. Above all, love shapes everything he does.
“God is love.”
1 John 4:8
Can We Be Close to Him?
Yes. Jehovah isn’t far away or hard to know. He invites people to pray to him and draw close to him. He cares for those who trust him and wants a real friendship with them.
“Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.”
James 4:8
