Human history has been shaped by conflict for thousands of years. Earlier wars were usually limited to particular regions, but modern warfare turned fighting into large-scale conflicts involving whole nations. This change began in 1914 with two worldwide conflicts, World War I and World War II.
A Major Turning Point
World War I changed how people lived, worked and viewed the world. Millions died, while entire nations collapsed under the demands of total war. When the fighting began, many expected it to end within months. Instead, it continued for years. New weapons turned battlefields into scenes of mechanical destruction, leaving lasting wounds in families and communities.
Tanks, machine guns, aircraft and poisonous gas caused an enormous loss of life. The number of military deaths each day was 10 times higher than during the American Civil War and 24 times higher than during the Napoleonic Wars. The worst was still to come.
The Aftermath
The war redefined borders and changed political systems across the world. It killed more than 10% of the world’s working population and brought down several old empires. The conflict left a traumatised world, and its effects are still felt today.
World War II caused even greater destruction. Total casualties exceeded 40 million in World War I and rose above 60 million in World War II. Soldiers were not the only victims. War also destroys families, uproots communities and leaves lasting suffering among civilians. We haven’t seen a lasting period of worldwide peace since 1914. There have been more than 130 wars since 1945, affecting roughly 1 in 6 people around the world. Modern nuclear arsenals hold destructive power equal to around 1 million Hiroshima bombs!

” 1 But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.”

A lot of people say they believe in God, but their connection to a personal God is nonexistent or slowly fading away. You may feel the whole idea of God is just way too abstract. A big reason for that is how many religions hide the fact that God actually has a name. Think about it—how can you really feel close to someone if you don’t even know what to call them?
Tou may not know it, but we humans need to actually get to know God on a personal level and figure out what his whole plan is. Think back to when you were a little kid—you probably just believed whatever basic Bible stuff your parents told you without giving it a second thought. But as you grew up, you might have felt the urge to double-check things for yourself—I know I did—and make sure what you were taught was actually legit.
