purpose

Does Our Planet Have a Purpose?
When we reflect on the rich colours and variety found in nature, its plain to see the earth was made to be a joyful home for mankind.
Our planet is perfectly suited for life. It has plenty of water, and water is essential for all living things. In addition, the earth’s tilt, rotation, and orbit are finely balanced. Because of this, the seas do not freeze solid or boil away. The atmosphere and magnetic field also protect life from harmful radiation.
At the same time, plants and animals depend on one another in remarkable ways. For that reason, many people believe the earth was made with a clear purpose in mind.

Considering the state of our world today, some may still wonder whether suffering and injustice were ever meant to be part of our story, questioning how such painful experiences fit within a world created with purpose, hope, and the expectation that life was meant to reflect something far better.
Will the Earth’s Purpose Be Fulfilled?
The earth was created to be a joyful, secure home for people who treat one another with dignity and show love for their Creator. Human life carries a purpose far greater than that of animals or plants. We have the unique capacity to know our Creator, to appreciate his qualities, and to reflect his example of love and justice.
The One who made the earth is fully capable of accomplishing everything and anything He intends. That means suffering and injustice are not permanent features of human life. In time, he will bring them to an end and restore the earth to what it was always meant to be — a peaceful, happy home for all humankind.
Is God to Blame for Our Suffering?
The Bible’s answer is a clear and emphatic no. Suffering was never part of God’s purpose for humanity. The first humans chose to reject his guidance and define good and bad for themselves. By turning away from him, they brought painful consequences on themselves.
We still feel the effects of that choice today, but that does not mean God is the source of human suffering. The Bible says:
“When under trial, let no one say: ‘I am being tried by God.’ For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.”
– (James 1:13)
Suffering can afflict anyone—even those who are favored by God.
