Will Cruelty Ever End?
It’s pretty clear that plain old selfishness plays a huge part in why the world is so mean today. Decades of a “me first” attitude have built a culture where most folks are just looking out for number one. A lot of people—and even entire countries—will do whatever it takes to get what they want, no matter who gets hurt along the way.
It feels like human life just doesn’t carry the same value anymore. Honestly, some people even seem to get a kick out of being cruel. They do it for the rush, kind of like criminals who admit they cause harm just for the fun of it. Plus, think about how many people love watching violent movies. Movie studios make a fortune off that demand, and watching non-stop violence in movies and on the news just ends up numbing everyone to real-life cruelty.
Being treated poorly also messes with people mentally and starts a vicious cycle. Experts point out that violence isn’t something we’re born with—it’s something we pick up when our environment lets it happen or even pushes for it. That’s why folks who grew up suffering abuse often end up treating others the exact same way.
Substance abuse plays a role too, as alcohol and drugs can bring out a really ugly side in people. On top of that, when citizens get fed up with corrupt or useless governments, some resort to violent acts and terrorism just to make a point—leaving innocent people to pay the price.
It really makes you wonder, though… Did we figure out how to be this cruel all on our own, or is something bigger driving all this chaos?
