so What dOES our future hold?
Foreword:
Mankind have always put their trust in politicians. Well, the long trail of failure should give them a clue, and yet they repeatedly vote for the same ones, hoping they’ll sort it out this time…. Spoiler alert: they don’t; they never do, they never will!
A History of Broken Promises
For generations, people have continually looked to those in power to fix their deepest problems; yet, history repeatedly proves that placing absolute trust in human institutions leads to disappointment. When you examine the track record of modern governance, the results are overwhelmingly clear… leaders come and go, promising grand solutions to economic distress, social unrest, and global instability, but the fundamental issues facing humanity remain unchanged.
Why the Pattern Continues
Why do so many keep falling into the same cycle of failure? Hope is a powerful emotion. When times get tough, people naturally want to believe that the next election will bring the change they so desperately need. They place their confidence in speeches and policy manifestos, ignoring the harsh reality of past failures.
As the famous saying goes, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Expecting flawed systems to yield flawless outcomes simply doesn’t work. True stability and peace won’t be delivered by political ballot boxes.
Ask yourself… is there any type of government that humans haven’t already tried? Today’s systems mostly stem from political science… the careful study of past failures and successes in human self-rule, aimed at keeping only what works best. But has it worked?
High Expectations vs Real Results
Because of a long history of trial and error, we ought to have had at least one government that truly satisfies what people need and want… but have we actually had one? When you look closely at the modern record of human leadership, what does it actually reveal?
Modern Expert Predictions
Nowadays, specialists examine international patterns and attempt to forecast what lies ahead. Whilst several of their claims have proven accurate’ish, plenty of others have completely flopped. For instance, back in 1912, Marconi, the pioneer of the wireless telegraph, famously claimed:
“The coming of the wireless era will make war impossible.” Spoiler alert: it didn’t, hasn’t and never will!
Furthermore, an agent at the Decca Record Company who turned down the Beatles in 1962 believed that guitar groups were quickly ‘going out of fashion‘. How wrong they were! Spoiler alert: Wooaw, they missed that one, didn’t they?!
The Supernatural
Becoming desperate, many people look toward the mystical world to try and find hints about what is to come. Some seek advice from astrologers, making horoscopes a standard feature across daily newspapers and magazines. Other people visit psychics or fortune-tellers who claim they can “read” upcoming events by studying card patterns, numbers, or palm lines, and even tea leaves… whats that all about?.
Ancient Oracles
To discover the future, some people back in ancient history visited oracles… priests or priestesses who shared guidance from the god they served. For example, history tells us that King Croesus of Lydia sent valuable treasures to the oracle at Delphi, Greece, asking what would happen if he went to war against Cyrus of Persia. The seer claimed that Croesus would “crush a great empire” if he attacked. Feeling certain of success, Croesus marched into battle… but the massive empire destroyed in the end was actually his own!
The shady prediction meant nothing… it would have seemed accurate regardless of who won the war; however, Croesus paid a heavy price for misleading advice that ended in catastrophe. Have the people who rely on modern methods for predicting the future managed any better?
