beware of false religion
Many People Are Misled
Many sincere people still don’t know the truth about God or mankind’s future. As a result, they live with confusion and follow teachings and customs that don’t come from God. Ideas such as hellfire, the Trinity, and the immortality of the soul have spread widely, even though they don’t reflect God’s thinking.
Why Spiritual Darkness Exists
False religion has played a big part in this. Religious leaders have often taught human traditions instead of God’s truth. Jesus warned…. “It is in vain that they keep worshipping me, because they teach commands of men as doctrines.” (Mark 7:7, 8)
Behind false worship stands Satan. The Bible says…. “The god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers.” (2 Corinthians 4:4) He makes error look appealing and uses false teachers to mislead people.
Jehovah’s View of False Religion
The Bible strongly condemns false religion. Under the Law, false prophets were treated as rebels against Jehovah. Jesus and his apostles gave the same warning. Jesus said…. “Be on the watch for the false prophets.” (Matthew 7:15)
So true Christians must test what they hear and reject teachings that go against God’s Word. “Do not believe every inspired statement, but test the inspired statements.” (1 John 4:1)
Babylon the Great
Revelation describes false religion as “Babylon the Great”, a corrupt symbolic prostitute with great influence over rulers and nations. She has mixed with political powers and carries guilt for much bloodshed. The Bible says she is responsible for the blood of prophets, holy ones, and many others. (Revelation 17:1-6; 18:24)
Her End Is Certain
Babylon the Great won’t last. Revelation says political powers will turn on her and destroy her because God will allow it. “Babylon the great city will be hurled down, and she will never be found again.” (Revelation 18:21)
Get Out of False Religion
God’s people are told clearly…. “Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins.” (Revelation 18:4)
That means more than rejecting false teachings. Christians also avoid supporting false worship in any form. If someone wants to serve Jehovah, they should make a clean break from any false religious ties.

Stay Separate, But Show Love
Keeping separate from false religion doesn’t mean treating others badly. Christians still show love, kindness, and respect. Jesus said…. “You must love your neighbour as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39)
So they speak with grace, stay mild, and share Bible truth tactfully. “Let your words always be gracious.” (Colossians 4:6)
Protect Your Faith
To stay safe from false teaching, Christians rely on the Bible and the spiritual help Jehovah provides. God’s Word can fully equip a person for what is right. “All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching.” (2 Timothy 3:16, 17)
By staying close to Bible truth, meeting with true worshippers, and holding to “the pattern of healthful words” (2 Timothy 1:13), Christians can keep clear of false worship and remain in Jehovah’s favour.
